Welcome to Join in CITES 2026
Dear Friends and Colleagues:
With the “dual carbon” goals becoming a global consensus, renewable energy sources (wind and solar) are being integrated into power grids at an unprecedented pace. However, their intermittency and variability pose significant challenges to the safe, stable, and efficient operation of power systems. Energy storage, as a key technology to address temporal and spatial energy imbalances, has become a strategic pillar of the energy transition.
Currently, the energy storage industry is experiencing a “diversified and multi-point breakthrough” pattern: lithium-ion batteries continue to reduce costs and improve performance; long-duration storage technologies such as flow batteries, compressed air, flywheels, and thermal storage are accelerating commercialization; and hydrogen storage, as a seasonal storage solution, is attracting growing attention. Meanwhile, new models such as virtual power plants, integrated source-grid-load-storage systems, and shared energy storage are emerging. Nevertheless, the industry faces common challenges including core technology breakthroughs, incomplete safety and standard systems, unclear business models, and international market barriers.
Against this backdrop, this global energy storage conference aims to bring together leading scholars, industry leaders, policymakers, and investors to analyze industry trends, showcase cutting-edge achievements, address development bottlenecks, and promote cross-sector collaboration. The goal is to advance the energy storage industry from “scale development” to “high-quality, safe, and efficient” growth, contributing knowledge and solutions toward building a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient modern energy system.
2026 Conference on Innovation and Technologies of Energy Storage(CITES 2026) is organized by Department of Electrical Engineering, City University of Hong Kong, technically sponsored by IEEE Hong Kong Section and JC STEM Lab of Future Energy Systems, CityUHK Shenzhen Research Institute, supported by Zhejiang University, College of Electrical Engineering, Sichuan University, School of Electrical and Information Engineering, Tianjin University, School of Electrical Engineering and Automation, Wuhan University, The Macao Institution of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Hong Kong Association for Advanced Scientific Research(HKAASR), Hong Kong Society of Mechanical Engineers(HKSME), Asia Pacific Institute of Science and Engineering(APISE), Global Chinese Power & Energy Society and IEEE PES Chongqing Chapter, media supported by ELECTRIC POWER ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY, Energy Storage and Applications and Bjx.com.cn. The conference will be held in Hong Kong, China from July 23 to 25, 2026. The theme of CITES 2026 is “Diversified Energy Storage Innovation and System Synergy”.
